Monosegment Resection in ALPPS

Applicants:

Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, Argentina | Royal Free Hospital, UCLH London, UK
Date Project Approved:

Project Status:

Background:
Major liver resections are traditionally limited to leave two contigouus liver segments behind. ALPPS is a novel technique to induce liver hypertrophy and allows increase of functional liver volume. A recently established worldwide registry systematically collects data on these novel operations. Several of these operations have been performed in Buenos Aires, London and, as we got to know recently, in other places, several of these cases have reportedly been recorded in the registry.
Objectives:
We would like to query the ALPPS registry for patients undergoing ALPPS with liver remnants consisting only of single liver segments, a novelty in liver surgery. We would like to discuss which segments are amenable to single segment ALPPS surgery.
Methods:
Starting volumes, pre- and intraoperative variables and and clinical outcomes and survival and disease free survival should be evaluated. All Surgeons performing these procedures should ccoauthor the study with descriptions of their procedures, intraoperative photographs and radiographs.
Comments:
This study has been finished, submitted to peer review in august 2014 and accepted for publication in SURGERY. It appeared online on february 27th 2015. The topic of monosegment resections in ALPPS is now open for further applications and more patients with monosegment resections have been entered into the registry.
